Zhuhai, where flowers bloom year-round and the sea is never far away, is a city shaped by both history and openness. Today, landmarks such as the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge and a growing collection of luxury resorts reflect its evolving coastal charm.

As Banyan Tree brand’s debut in Zhuhai, Banyan Tree Zhuhai Phoenix Bay enjoys a secluded setting between mountains and sea, with two private beaches. Inspired by Lingnan water-town culture, the heritage of the Tanka people, and the spirit of contemporary luxury, YANG crafted a retreat that feels both rooted in place and timeless in experience.

PART 1

Beyond the entrance, a tranquil water courtyard sets the tone for arrival. Inspired by the traditional concept of “Si Shui Gui Tang”(water gathering at the heart of the home), perforated walls, colonnades, and shifting light evoke the quiet elegance of a Lingnan residence.

A sequence of courtyards lends the lobby a gentle sense of ceremony, while sea-blue screens, refined Chinese furniture, and the Phoenix in Bloom feature wall crafted from Lingnan ceramics and recycled materials add understated sophistication.

At Mirror Bar, floor-to-ceiling glazing welcomes views of sea and sky. Details inspired by local fishing culture—arched forms, woven textures, and swing lounges and relaxed seating—create a resort atmosphere that feels both contemporary and deeply rooted in place.

PART 2

Framing the Sea, Embracing the View

Rather than turning inward like a traditional courtyard, Banyan Tree Zhuhai Phoenix Bay opens itself to the landscape. Guided by a landscape-first approach, YANG positioned the lobby lounge, dining venues, and outdoor spaces along the waterfront, allowing the sea and sky to become part of the experience.

The all-day dining restaurant unfolds toward the bay, with floor-to-ceiling glazing and a generous terrace framing uninterrupted water views. Replacing the conventional multi-station buffet, a central island and made-to-order dining concept create a more refined and sustainable experience, while details inspired by local fishing culture subtly enrich the space.

Outside, a circular sunken dining area appears to float on the water, offering a unique setting where guests can dine surrounded by sea, sky, and horizon.

PART 3

Savouring Lingnan Traditions

Inspired by Lingnan architecture, Xun Chinese Restaurant celebrates craftsmanship through carved wood details, lattice screens, flower-window motifs and door handles referencing the wok-ear walls. Warm timber, deep red, and charcoal tones create a calm, refined atmosphere, while private dining rooms frame sweeping views of Phoenix Bay and the iconic Zhuhai Grand Theatre.

PART 4

By the Sea, After Dark

Blending a grill restaurant with a whisky bar, Bang captures the relaxed spirit of a coastal evening. Inspired by Zhuhai’s shoreline, the space features a sculptural bar, handcrafted glass installations, and textured screens that echo the rhythm of the sea and the heritage of the Tanka people.

Surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glazing, guests enjoy sweeping ocean views, while weathered timber and natural stone bring warmth and character. The result is a setting that feels effortlessly refined, yet deeply connected to the freedom of the waterfront.

PART5

A Sanctuary of Stillness

At Banyan Tree Spa, water, light, and texture come together to create a deeply restorative retreat. Warm timber, natural stone, and handcrafted details inspired by the sea set a tranquil tone, while soft daylight, gentle reflections, and the sound of water slow the pace of arrival.

More than a wellness destination, the spa is a sanctuary for renewal. As the body unwinds through aroma and touch, the mind finds quiet restoration amid the embrace of mountains and sea.

PART 6

Retreating into the Rhythm of Sea and Sky

Arrival begins by boat. Gliding through winding waterways and garden landscapes, guests are gently immersed in the spirit of a Lingnan waterside retreat before reaching their rooms.

With just 83 guestrooms, each over 85 square metres, the resort offers a rare sense of space and privacy. Natural timber, soft textiles, generous terraces, and private hot spring pools create an atmosphere of effortless comfort, while selected room types feature 12-metre private swimming pools overlooking the sea.

More than a resort, Banyan Tree Zhuhai Phoenix Bay is YANG’s contemporary interpretation of Eastern resort living—where local culture, nature, and quiet luxury coexist, inviting guests to slow down and reconnect with what truly matters.
